Ultrasonic Testing
Ultrasonic Testing and Inspection is the only true three dimensional NDE method. The new digital equipment on the market makes the inspection much quicker and much more accurate. More inspection services are going to Ultrasonic Testing and getting away from Radiography due to regulations, safety, costs, and the information gained by locating the depth of an indication.
Standards have been established for certifications of personnel through American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT). Ultrasonic Testing procedures are standardized through calibration using certified calibration blocks. Codes dictate how to calibrate, the equipment to use, and what is acceptable or rejectable. Non destructive inspection services are widely accepted and there are many NDE companies. But what if your particular situation is not covered by a code or standard?
